About this game
Xiangqi Endgame turns classic Chinese chess endgames into forty handcrafted mate puzzles. You command Red and must checkmate the Black general within a fixed number of moves. Every level hides a forced win built on a famous mating pattern such as double chariots, horse and cannon, the couching horse, the iron bolt, double cannons, the smothered palace, sky and earth cannons, or scooping the moon from the sea. A sharp alpha-beta engine defends Black with real depth, so only accurate play succeeds. Two hints per level reveal the correct first move, and every puzzle was verified by a built-in solver.
How to play
Tap a red piece to see its legal destinations, then tap a target to move. Mate Black within the move limit.
Tips & Tricks
- Count every check first — most solutions begin with a forcing check.
- Watch the palace corners — an advisor frozen on its spot often seals the mating net.
- Chariots work best in pairs, driving the general to the back rank row by row.
- Save your hints for the three and four move puzzles where the quiet first move decides everything.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I run out of moves?
The run ends immediately and your total score is banked. Clearing a level scores 100 plus 20 for each move you had left, with a 50 point bonus for finishing without hints.
Are all levels really winnable?
Yes. Every one of the forty positions was checked by a built-in engine that proves Red has a forced mate within the move limit even against the best defense.
